The historic centenary celebrations will begin on June 8, 2030, with opening ceremonies and one match each in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay—a symbolic tribute to the inaugural FIFA World Cup, which was hosted and won by Uruguay in 1930.

After the opening festivities in South America, the tournament will move to Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, where the remainder of the competition will be played.

A key decision is still pending, however. FIFA has yet to confirm whether the tournament will feature 48 teams, as introduced in 2026, or expand to 64 teams for the centenary edition. If the tournament is expanded, all six host nations would automatically qualify.
