Florida Executes Oldest Death Row Inmate in State History
Florida has executed 74-year-old Dennis Sochor, making him the oldest inmate ever put to death in the state's history.

Sochor was convicted of the 1982 kidnapping and murder of 18-year-old Patricia Gifford, who disappeared after rejecting his advances on New Year's Day. Her body was never recovered.

In 1986, Sochor was arrested on unrelated charges and extradited to Florida, where authorities said he confessed to kidnapping, strangling Gifford, and disposing of her body.

After decades of appeals, Sochor was executed by three-drug lethal injection at Florida State Prison in Bradford County, bringing one of Florida's longest-running capital punishment cases to a close.

The execution has renewed debate over the death penalty in the United States, with supporters calling it long-awaited justice for the victim and her family, while opponents continue to raise ethical concerns about capital punishment.
