May Edochie Sues Over Alleged Cyberbullying, Seeks Court Order to Remove Defamatory Social Media Accounts

May Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has taken legal action at the Lagos State High Court, seeking the removal of several social media accounts she alleges have been used to cyberbully, harass, intimidate and defame her over the years.
The entrepreneur, influencer and brand ambassador is also asking the court to permanently restrain Yinka Omolola Theisen, Emeka Ugwuonye, and the unidentified operators of multiple Facebook, Instagram, X and other online accounts from making further allegedly defamatory publications against her.

Lawsuit Filed at Lagos High Court

The suit, marked LD/10737GCM/2026, was filed through her legal representatives, Jessica Egbafor and Esther Fijo of Greylaw Partners.

In the application, May Edochie is seeking a perpetual injunction stopping the defendants from publishing what she described as defamatory, threatening, abusive and harassing content targeted at her.

She is also requesting that the court order the immediate deletion of the disputed social media accounts and posts while directing the affected social media platforms to disclose the identities and account information of the operators to assist ongoing investigations.

May Edochie Alleges Years of Online Harassment

In a detailed 126-paragraph affidavit, May alleged that she has been the victim of a coordinated campaign of online harassment spanning several years.

According to her, the defendants, alongside operators of various blogs and anonymous social media pages, allegedly circulated false accusations, manipulated photographs, AI-generated images, insulting caricatures, death wishes and other offensive materials designed to ridicule her, damage her reputation and subject her to public embarrassment.

She claimed the alleged smear campaign has continued despite previous legal warnings.

Legal Notices Failed to Stop the Alleged Attacks

May told the court that after serving legal notices on some of the defendants in 2025, demanding the removal of the allegedly defamatory publications, the online attacks intensified.

She alleged that new social media accounts were created to continue the campaign against her.

The claimant also accused one of the defendants, whom she identified as her former lawyer, of breaching solicitor-client confidentiality by allegedly publishing confidential information obtained during the course of legal representation.

Alleged Defamation Impacted Business and Family

According to May Edochie, the alleged online publications have severely affected her personal brand, endorsement deals, business opportunities and commercial relationships.

She further claimed that the publication of her private contact information exposed members of her family to harassment while causing her emotional distress, anxiety and concerns about her personal safety.

As a result, she is asking the court to restrain the defendants from making any further publications about her and compel the removal of all disputed online content.

Court Orders Service on Defendants

Justice Abdul-Raheem Tejumade Muyideen directed that all court documents be served on the defendants through their last known residential addresses, email addresses and their verified social media and other electronic communication platforms.

The judge subsequently adjourned the matter for a service report.

Earlier Cease-and-Desist Notices

The lawsuit follows cease-and-desist notices issued by May Edochie's lawyers in September 2025 to Emeka Ugwuonye and Yinka Omolola Theisen over allegations of cyberbullying, cyberstalking and defamation.

In those notices, she demanded the immediate removal of the alleged defamatory publications, public apologies and retractions across all platforms where the statements appeared.

May also sought ₦1 billion in damages from Emeka Ugwuonye and ₦500 million from Yinka Omolola Theisen for the alleged damage to her reputation, business interests and emotional well-being.

The case is expected to attract significant public attention as the legal proceedings continue, given the high-profile personalities involved and the growing concerns surrounding cyberbullying, online harassment and digital defamation in Nigeria.
