A prominent development advocacy group, Niger Delta Advancement Honours (NDAH), has blamed poor leadership and the lack of credible role models for the slow pace of development in Nigeria, particularly across the Niger Delta region.

Speaking during a media briefing in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the organization said Nigeria possesses abundant natural and human resources capable of positioning the country among the world's leading economies. However, it argued that persistent leadership failures have continued to hinder meaningful progress.

Formerly known as the Garden City Advancement Awards, the organization officially unveiled its renewed identity and development agenda, emphasizing its commitment to promoting transformational leadership and celebrating individuals making genuine contributions to society.

Principal Partner of NDAH, Robinson Koyoyo, described leadership as Nigeria's greatest challenge, insisting that the country's underdevelopment is not due to a lack of resources but a shortage of visionary and selfless leaders.

Unfortunately, many people occupying leadership positions today have not provided lasting solutions to the problems confronting the Niger Delta or humanity at large," Koyoyo said.»

He explained that the organization would not recognize individuals who have failed to make meaningful contributions to society, stressing that its awards are reserved for people, brands, and organizations whose achievements have positively impacted communities.

According to him, NDAH aims to bridge the leadership gap by identifying and showcasing outstanding personalities whose integrity, innovation, and hard work can inspire future generations.

Koyoyo lamented the growing "get-rich-quick" mentality among many young people, saying the organization intends to counter that narrative by celebrating genuine success stories.

Also speaking at the event, the Executive Director of Branding and Communications, Elvis Jonathan-Ibiri, said the group's rebranding marks the beginning of a renewed commitment to driving sustainable development across the Niger Delta.

He noted that the new identity reflects the organization's focus on leadership excellence, innovation, strategic partnerships, regional development, and the promotion of individuals and institutions making lasting impacts within the region.

The Niger Delta Advancement Honours said it remains committed to recognizing excellence and encouraging responsible leadership as part of its broader vision of building a more prosperous and progressive Niger Delta.
