Trump Switches to Qatar-Gifted Air Force One After NATO Summit, Showcases New Presidential Jet to U.S. Servicemembers
President Donald Trump made headlines on Truth Social during his return to Washington after the NATO summit by switching aircraft in the United Kingdom, stepping off the older Air Force One before boarding the newly refurbished Boeing 747 gifted by Qatar for presidential use.
According to Trump, the aircraft change was part of a planned stop at RAF Mildenhall, where he personally showcased the new presidential jet to American servicemembers stationed at the base. In a post on Truth Social, the president said the visit was made at the request of personnel at the installation and added "virtually no deviation" to his return journey.
Trump explained that he deliberately flew the older Air Force One into the U.K. before transferring to the newer aircraft, giving U.S. military members an opportunity to see the upgraded presidential plane up close.
The president is returning to Washington after attending the NATO summit in Turkey, where defense spending, regional security, and alliance cooperation dominated discussions among world leaders.
The appearance of the refurbished Boeing 747—gifted by Qatar and now serving as the presidential aircraft—has drawn renewed public attention, with supporters praising the display while critics continue to debate the implications of accepting a foreign-donated aircraft.
As images of the aircraft circulated online, the unusual mid-journey plane switch quickly became one of the most talked-about moments following the summit.
What do you think about President Trump's decision to showcase the new Air Force One to U.S. troops?
