Trump Says US Could Take Control of Strait of Hormuz, Demands Payment for Protecting Global Oil Route
US President has declared that the United States could take control of the Strait of Hormuz and expects to be financially compensated for protecting one of the world's most critical oil shipping routes amid escalating tensions with Iran.

Speaking during a phone interview on Fox News' Fox & Friends on Monday, Trump said the US would likely become the main security force overseeing the strategic waterway, which handles a significant share of global oil exports.

«"We're going to keep the strait, and we'll probably run it. We'll become the guardian of the strait. Maybe we'll call it the guardian angel of the strait. And we should be reimbursed for that," Trump said.»

Trump: Allies Should Pay for US Protection

Trump argued that wealthy nations benefiting from the safe passage of oil through the Strait of Hormuz should bear the financial cost of US military protection.

«"We're going to guard it. We're going to get paid for guarding it—a lot of money. We're going to be reimbursed because the other nations are very wealthy. They're on our side, and we can't be expected to do that for nothing," he added.»

His remarks come as the Strait of Hormuz remains at the center of rising geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran, raising concerns over global energy supplies and economic stability.

Iran Keeps Strait of Hormuz Closed

Iran announced the closure of the strategic waterway after what it described as an unauthorized transit and later confirmed that shipping would remain suspended until "stability and calm" are restored.

The closure has disrupted international shipping and triggered fresh concerns in global oil markets, sending crude prices sharply higher.

Trump Accuses Iran of Breaking Agreements

Trump also accused Tehran of repeatedly violating diplomatic agreements between the two countries.

«"We had a deal. It was a done deal, and then they broke it. They always break it. We've had 10 deals with these people, and so we're just going to hit them very hard," Trump stated.»

Iran Issues Fresh Warning to the United States

Iran's Revolutionary Guards responded by insisting that normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz can only resume if the United States halts its military operations in the region.

The group warned that continued US involvement could trigger wider disruptions across the global oil and gas sector.

The latest developments follow a weekend of intense missile and drone exchanges between US and Iranian forces. Tehran says it targeted US military facilities across the Gulf while maintaining its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

The renewed conflict has also placed last month's interim US-Iran agreement—designed to reopen the waterway and reduce military tensions—in serious doubt.

Global Markets on Edge

The Strait of Hormuz is regarded as one of the world's most strategically important maritime chokepoints, with a substantial portion of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas passing through it every day. Any prolonged disruption could lead to higher fuel prices, increased inflation, and renewed uncertainty across global financial markets.
