Google Search Live Debuts Inside AI Mode: A New Voice-Powered Search Experience
Google has rolled out Search Live, a new voice-first experience within the AI Mode of the Google app for Android and iOS. Currently available to users in the U.S. who are part of the Google Labs experiment, this feature brings back-and-forth voice conversations directly into Search—much like Gemini Live, but now embedded in the Google app.
With Search Live, you simply tap the Live icon and speak your query. You can follow up naturally, ask additional questions, and get real-time results with links displayed on-screen for deeper exploration. It’s designed for on-the-go searchers and multitaskers, allowing you to keep the conversation going even while using other apps.
There's also a Transcript mode to switch to text, and AI Mode history so you can revisit previous interactions and continue where you left off.
But here's the mystery: why does Google have both Gemini Live and Search Live, when they appear to offer nearly identical functionality? According to Google, Search Live uses a custom version of Gemini with advanced voice capabilities. And soon, it will support camera input for real-time visual context—again, just like Gemini Live.
