Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Faces Slow Sales, Production Cut as Foldable Focus Shifts to US
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, a sleek and lightweight take on the traditional Galaxy S flagship, was seen as a potential game-changer in Samsung’s smartphone lineup. However, new insider reports suggest the model has fallen short of expectations just weeks after launch.
Launched at the end of May 2025, the Galaxy S25 Edge was expected to perform strongly during its first three months — a key sales period for any flagship device. But internal sources now say the phone has underperformed in early sales, prompting Samsung to lower production targets for the model.
There were previous rumors that the Edge model might replace the Galaxy S Plus variant in the Galaxy S26 series next year. The Plus model has historically been the lowest-selling variant of the Galaxy S trio, a trend that’s persisted over the past few years.
Samsung was hoping the Edge design — thinner, lighter, and sleeker — would resonate with users, but the market response has been lukewarm, at least in this generation. It remains to be seen whether Samsung will reconsider the Edge strategy in 2026 or stick with it for another round.
Foldables Take the Spotlight
Meanwhile, Samsung is shifting its focus to its foldables. Insiders told The Elec that the company is front-loading production of the Galaxy Z7 series for the US market to beat upcoming tariffs.
June production target increased to 600,000 units, up from 400,000
Global production delayed, to resume with higher output in July
The original foldable plan: 1.34 million units total, including 630,000 Galaxy Z Fold7 units
This tariff-driven strategy will affect global supply, at least temporarily, but it’s clear that Samsung is banking on foldables to carry momentum in the latter half of 2025.
