Xiaomi YU7 Electric SUV to Launch June 26: Bigger Than Tesla Model Y, 681HP, 835km Range & Aggressive Pricing
Xiaomi is making bold moves in the EV market with the official unveiling of its first electric SUV – the Xiaomi YU7 – set for June 26. Already on-site in China, we’re preparing to cover the highly anticipated launch event of what could be Tesla’s fiercest new competitor in the compact SUV space.
Following the success of its SU7 electric sedan, Xiaomi is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with the YU7, a full-size electric SUV designed to challenge the Tesla Model Y directly — both in size, performance, and price.
Built on Xiaomi’s "Modena" EV platform, the YU7 measures 4,999 mm long, 1,996 mm wide, and 1,600 mm tall, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase, offering more space than the Model Y. Design is handled by an ex-BMW designer and features include elegant "waterdrop" LED headlights and a massive aluminum clamshell hood—the largest on any mass-produced vehicle. It also boasts a total of 1,970L cargo space, including a 141L frunk.
Cutting-Edge Tech Meets Power
Inside, the YU7 is a tech lover’s dream, featuring:
16.1-inch central touchscreen
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor
HyperOS car UI
Nappa leather upholstery
Panoramic glass roof
Zero-gravity front seats
Advanced LiDAR-based autonomous driving backed by NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor
Powertrain & Performance
The YU7 will launch in three variants:
Standard RWD:
96.3 kWh battery, 835 km CLTC range
Pro AWD:
Same battery, dual motors for higher performance
Max AWD:
101.7 kWh battery, 681 hp (508 kW), 0–100 km/h in 3.23 seconds, top speed of 253 km/h
With 800V fast-charging support, the YU7 can gain 620 km of range in just 15 minutes.
Positioned to Beat Tesla on Price
Xiaomi knows SUVs are where EV profits and volume lie — and it’s targeting Tesla's best-seller head-on. The YU7's rumored starting price of RMB 245,900 (~€30,700) would undercut the Tesla Model Y in China (RMB 263,500 / €33,040), giving it a serious edge in the world’s largest EV market.
Pre-launch buzz supports Xiaomi's strategy: initial deposits for the YU7 are reportedly 3x higher than for the SU7 at the same stage — a sign the market is ready.
Stay tuned for official pricing and variant breakdowns at the June 26 launch.
