Ali Modu Sheriff Accuses Peter Obi of Backing Biafra Agenda, Demands Clear Position on Nigeria's Unity

Former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff has accused Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of failing to publicly distance himself from the Biafra agitation, claiming the former Anambra governor should clearly state his position on Nigeria's unity.
Speaking during a public discussion, Sheriff alleged that Peter Obi has not openly condemned the Biafra movement or the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), arguing that the former presidential candidate should make his stance on the country's unity unmistakably clear.
According to Sheriff:

«"Peter Obi, up to this moment, is pursuing the division of Nigeria because he believes in Biafra. He never condemns Biafra or IPOB, as he wants to divide Nigeria. He should come out and say if he doesn't believe in the division of the country."»

The remarks have sparked fresh political debate, with supporters and critics of both politicians reacting across social media.

Peter Obi has consistently described himself in past public statements as a believer in a united Nigeria while also advocating dialogue and constitutional solutions to address the country's challenges. As of the time of this report, he has not publicly responded to Sheriff's latest comments.

The latest exchange comes as political discussions ahead of future elections continue to intensify, with issues surrounding national unity, security, restructuring, and regional agitations remaining central to Nigeria's political discourse.
