Stellantis, Free2move, and Ample Launch Fast EV Battery Swap Service in Madrid to Power Car-Sharing Growth
Stellantis, Free2move, and Ample have officially kicked off their innovative EV battery swap service in Madrid following a successful pilot phase. This groundbreaking collaboration is tailored to enhance the car-sharing experience in the Spanish capital by offering a quicker, more efficient alternative to traditional charging.
The service is designed to streamline electric vehicle (EV) operations by significantly cutting downtime, reducing reliance on public charging infrastructure, and lowering operating costs. Drivers can complete a battery swap in under 5 minutes using a dedicated app, while Ample’s automated stations instantly detect compatible vehicles.
Currently, Stellantis has deployed a fleet of 40 Ample-enabled Fiat 500e models for the program, with plans to scale up to 100 units in the coming months. The solution is both scalable and flexible, compatible with various EV platforms—especially those under Stellantis' umbrella. However, it does require special modular batteries designed by Ample.
This collaboration is expected to provide critical data that could fuel the expansion of similar battery-swapping networks in major urban centers across the globe.
